Services

  • Behaviour Consultations

Abigail will visit you and your horse in the comfort of your yard for a private consultation. During this, she will gather as much information about your equine and the nature of the problem to obtain a full history, from which a bespoke behaviour modification plan will be formulated to resolve the behavioural issue(s). You will be supported for 1 month following the initial consultation via phone or email.

Your horse’s welfare is at the forefront of the entire process and in consideration of this, Abigail does not offer quick fixes as such a thing does not exist that truly addresses the root cause of the behaviour.

You can expect to see improvements during the initial consultation, however if the behaviour problem is more severe and complex follow up sessions may be required at an additional cost.

    Behaviour consultation: £130

    Follow up training sessions: £40

    Written report: £45

*There is a travel cost of 50p per mile round trip from SY22. There is no charge for the first and last 20 miles.

  • Remote Consultations

Remote consultations are now available over Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

The process is similar to that of a standard behaviour consultation, however it requires you to have a device that you can record clear videos on and stable internet connection. Both of these elements are essential so that Abigail can clearly consult and advise on the presenting behaviour problem.

Follow up support will be provided for 1 month after the initial consultation to support you through the behaviour modification plan. This will be via phone or email. If you feel you need a follow up session over Zoom/Teams then this can be provided at an additional cost.

    Remote consultation: £100

    Follow up call: £35

    Written report: £45

  • The Consultation Process

    Stage 1

During initial contact, Abigail will take administrative details from you and a brief description of the nature of the behaviour problem. As pain is an underlying cause of many behavioural problems, if the horse's vet has not been consulted in regards to the problem then Abigail may ask you to contact the vet prior to her visit to rule out potential medical issues.

Abigail will then run through how she can best help you and your horse and if you wish to proceed, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire sent via email. It is important that you complete this with as much information as you can provide and return this at least 24 hours prior to the consultation.

    Stage 2

Abigail will visit you and your horse and you can expect the consultation to last 2-3 hours. The consultation involves observing the horse in their environment and gathering more information to narrow down potential causes for the behaviour. Management changes will likely be recommended, including ways of enriching your horse's environment.

If it is appropriate and safe to do so on the day then practical training will begin and you will be coached through it to ensure you are confident to carry out the behaviour modification plan that will be formulated after the consultation.

Abigail strongly believes that clients should feel empowered to undertake the training so that the results last long term.

    Stage 3

A comprehensive behaviour modification plan will be formulated based on the observations that Abigail made during the consultation. This will be emailed to you along with any informational resources that would be beneficial.

  • Training Sessions

Whether you are struggling with a certain handling problem or wish to improve your training skills, these sessions are all about what you would like out of them.

Abigail can demonstrate certain techniques and help coach you until you are confident to replicate these by yourself.

These sessions can include improving your horses confidence during farrier, vet or dentist visits, groundwork, backing, loading, clipping and so on. More than one session may be required depending on the severity of the behaviour problem.

If you have undergone a behaviour consultation with Abigail, these sessions will work through the training plan that has been formulated for your horse.
